Just like fashion, music is also an influence in our lives and has evolved over time.

Let’s visit a few famous family bands that lived and played music together to entertain millions of people during their careers that you can listen to with your family.

The Jackson 5 

Band Members:

  1. Jackie Jackson
  2. Tito Jackson
  3. Jermaine Jackson
  4. Marlon Jackson
  5. Michael Jackson

The Jackson 5 was a band of brothers from Gary, Indiana that started playing music together in 1964. They played talent shows and various local night clubs. Their father, Joe, was their manager.

Some of their popular songs include “ABC”, “I’ll Be There” and “Shake Your Body”.

The famous family band was signed by Motown in 1969 which launched them into worldwide stardom. The band went on hiatus 1989 after their last album and two members, Michael and Marlon went solo. Michael had already started his successful solo career.

Songs written by the Jackson 5 are still popular today. Their songs are often been played as background music on TV commercials and movie soundtracks.

Keeping it in the Family

Janet Jackson is the youngest sibling to the Jackson but never performed with her brothers as part of their band. Janet was successful with a solo acting and singing career and is still performing.


The Bee Gees

Who remembers watching Saturday Night Fever? It was this popular movie that really made the music of the Bee Gees popular.

The Bee Gees was a popular band that started in 1958 and have been successful throughout many decades until about 2012. Some of their more popular songs include “Stayin’ Alive”, “If I Can’t Have You” and “How Deep Is Your Love”. 

Songs written by the Bee Gees are still popular today. They have often been played as background music on TV commercials and movie soundtracks. When people hear a song, they often think back to their disco dance hall days of the 1970s and early 1980s.

Keeping it in the Family

Like Janet Jackson, the Bee Gees had a younger brother, Andy, who had his solo music and acting career.


The Osmonds

The Osmonds is another long-time famous family band. They started as the Osmond Brothers in 1973 and played as a Barbershop Quartet. With the inclusion of the Donny and Jimmy, their music took more of a country music tone. The family also performed various TV variety shows.

In later years, their music changed to pop and even into rock and roll but always kept a wholesome tone with their religious background and heritage.

The Beach Boys

The Beach Boys is a popular band that started in 1961 with a theme of the beach and Southern California Culture of fun the sun and surfing.

They hold the record for most records sold worldwide and have over 80 songs that made the charts.

Some of their most popular songs include “Surfin’ U.S.A”, “Good Vibrations”, “Kokomo”… just to name a few. Their songs have catchy lyrics that are easy to remember for anyone to sing along and dance to.

Keeping it in the Family

Brian Wilson’s daughters, Carnie and Wendy Wilson, created their own band called Wilson Phillips with Chynna Phillips. Chynna is the daughter of John and Michelle Phillips of The Mamas & the Papas.


The CarpentersFamous Family bands

This famous family band was a popular brother/sister duo that was active from 1969 to 1983.

Richard was known for his piano playing and Karen had a soft but lower key voice which some can say is mesmerizing and relaxing to listen to. The Carpenters went on to become one of the best-selling music artists of all time.

Popular songs include “We’ve Only Just Begun”, “Top of the World” and “Rainy Days And Mondays”.

HansonFamous Family Bands

Hanson is a popular band of three brothers that started in 1992 when the boys were barely teenagers and played cover songs and some of their own material a capella.

Their breakout songs included “MMMBop” and “Where is the Love”. Their music was popular with kids and teenagers because anyone could easily remember and sing along to the catchy lyrics and beats.
